What is Competitive ballroom dancing?
Competitive Ballroom Dancing is a form of dance recognized internationally which, in contrast to Street Dancing (Social Dancing), is best known for its competitive style (a big dancing floor, loads of dance couples, a panel of judges and an audience).
Competitions could go from regional level to world recognized with hundreds of couples participating in all modalities.

As it is a lead and follow dance, it is used widely in social dancing too.
​
In the International style, there are 10 dances in total, with two modalities considered.
Ballroom dancing
Although the ten dances can all be referred to as "Ballroom dancing", when speaking of this modality, it is commonly considered to comprise of five dances:

Slow Waltz

Tango

Vienesse Waltz

Slow Foxtrot

Quickstep

This style is normally recongized by its closed position, meaning that both leader and follower are in close hold all the time during each dance.
Latin American dancing
Latin American is widely recognized by its free and sensual form of movement, with couples having more freedom to dance than in ballroom. Couples dance in closed, open and even separated from one another.
